Our Foundation: Mission, Vision, and Journey

Transforming pain into purpose through courage, faith, and reconciliation

Our Vision

A Rwanda where unity transcends division, and healing gives birth to peace and purpose.

Our Mission

Ubutwari Bwo Kubaho is a women-led Rwandan organization dedicated to fostering reconciliation between widows of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and wives of men imprisoned for their role in the genocide. Through truth-telling, Bible-based healing sessions, and community support, we rebuild lives, families, and a united Rwanda.

The Five Pillars of Our Work

We believe that honest storytelling leads to liberation.

Hope

We envision a future where wounds are transformed into wisdom.

Our Courageous Journey

1995 - Today

1995

The Beginning

After the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Rwandan widows were left in trauma, poverty, and isolation. In September 1995, under the pastoral care of Priest Jerome Masinzo and Sister Teya, a small group of widows gathered for healing and prayer, supported by Caritas Rwanda.

Asking for forgiveness

In a courageous act of reconciliation, these widows invited wives of imprisoned genocide perpetrators to join them. In July 1998, this act of unity became a movement—transforming pain into purpose, and enemies into sisters.
